CUSTOM WOODEN MATTE

An old fabric on cardboard matte hindered the presentation of this painting. The matte had poor proportions and obscured important elements in the composition.

The painting was not secured to the matte. It was hanging loose by a string nailed to the back of the frame.

A larger oval was cut and shaped from wood. Gesso was applied and textured. Then the frame and matte were given an antiqued gold wash.

Since the painting’s outer shape is an oval the back of the matte was blocked so the painting could be safely mounted.
